Zhenhua files contain personal information about millions of people around the world in a database compiled by a Chinese tech company with reported links to the country’s government, military and intelligence agencies.
Zhenhua Data Information Technology Co. Limited monitors the target’s footprints across social media platforms and collects information like addresses, geolocations, and dates of birth, marital status, photographs, relatives, political associations and social media IDs.
About 2.4 million people are included in the database; they include politicians, such as Prime ministers Boris Johnson and Scott Morrison and their relatives, the royal family, celebrities and military figures.
The leaked data can potentially be used by china for surveillance and monitoring purposes. It can be a key weapon in a next generation “hybrid warfare”.
